Eureka!

Eureka!

While 2020 threw some curves but not all of them were bad.

Eureka lived up to his name, yielding 16 kilo of velvet as a three year old – simultaneously setting a Mayfield Record, a New Zealand record and – so far as I can establish – a world record too.

Eureka was born and bred here at Mayfield Elk – and yes, he will be joining our AI programme with semen available both nationally and internationally next season.

We already have semen straws available from his sire Savannah both national and international. Savannah is another Mayfield bred bull with Korean Gold heritage in his bloodlines – now seven-years-old his hard-antler spread this year reached 54inch – an inch on the Duke’s 53inch at the same age.

Now those are trophies!

We’ve continued development of the Central Otago block where we grow our lucerne crop. We’ve struck water and our son Josh, a newly minted qualified builder, is preparing to put down roots and build a house there.

We know how lucky we are to have family so close. Jo and I are enjoying watching our grandchildren grow and spending time with them in the great Kiwi outdoors.
